Short version:
If you've got $100 for these and the Tenergy charger (there's several available), do yourself a favor and never have to worry about batteries again. They're higher quality than most name brands, and for half the price.

Long version:
I had already bought Tenergy high capacity NiMH batteries, but didn't quite have enough. This pack put me way over the top for my needs, and I imagine that of most households. They last much longer than even standard batteries, and charge in a reasonable amount of time.

I used a Tenergy charger, which had nice indicators, and managed to charge the entire bunch in a few days.

One thing to take note of is the milliamp hour rating of rechargeable batteries. The Duracells and Energizers that are available have lower mAh ratings, which is essentially a measure of how long the battery will last. Not only does Tenergy offer higher-quality batteries, but they're significantly cheaper than picking up the same stuff at a brick-and-mortar place. I saw a set of 8 AA rechargeable Energizers going for $20 once.

There's no doubt that this set, and a good charger that can deal with D cells is an investment, but in the long run it's a lot cheaper and a lot more environmentally-friendly.

Remember, you're NOT supposed to throw away batteries into the normal trash bin; they contain all sorts of terrible chemicals that don't belong there. When any battery is dead, check with your local waste management department (they're usually easy to find online) and ask for some home hazardous waste disposal locations. I have a little jar dedicated to all the old non-rechargeable batteries I'm slowly replacing with the Tenergy batteries, and eventually I'll do the same.
