This 6X illuminated hand magnifier in an attractive ergonomic blue and white design may be a bit on the expensive side ($100.00) when compared with other available lighted hand magnifiers (about $30.00), but considering its superior quality, German craftsmanship and optics along with a 10-year manufacturer's warranty it is well worth the price. You do get what you pay for in this case!

I very much like the ergonomics of this Schweizer LED magnifier, especially the much longer, pleasingly shaped and curvaceous handle which conforms to the hand and makes holding the magnifier for longer periods of time without fatigue a breeze.

This is an important consideration especially for elderly readers who will most likely need a magnifier of some sort with advancing age. The commonly available smaller, pocket-size illuminated magnifiers are much more likely to get dropped accidentally at some time during use. This is unlikely to happen with this long-handle magnifier that can be properly and firmly gripped (fits whole hand) by young and old alike.

Beauty and utility also can be found in the simplicity of this Schweizer LED illuminated magnifier's design. Three AAA batteries are easily and conveniently inserted into the long handle; the battery compartment closes securely with a distinctive click. The two-position sliding on/off switch does only what it is supposed to do and nothing more: it turns the extremely bright LED on and off. The engagement/disengagement of the LED switch can readily be felt during use.

I specifically purchased this magnifier in November 2012 for my elderly father who has had problems in the past with other smaller lighted magnifiers (e.g., ILA magnifiers with red switch) that have a combination three-position switch which both turns the LED on/off and opens/closes the battery compartment located on top of the magnifier itself. Instead of turning off the LED he would occasionally end up unintentionally opening the battery compartment and having the batteries fall out.

If you need a notably handier and more ergonomic illuminated magnifier that will last over the long-term, feel free to purchase one of these German beauties at the magnification that you feel is most appropriate (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X and 6X).
